Does ShoreTel CONNECT only synchronyzing with Microsoft Exchange

I have a client and she does not use Microsoft Exchange, so after updating to ShoreTel Connect he has issue to synchronizing his calendar and and changing state availability with Outlook, they are using WebMail ALT-N MDAEMON web based email service, and use to have it work with old communicator.

When in Connect client going to account manage AD credentials it clearly says "Your AD credentials will be used to authenticate against Exchange and help you create new events". And could not find a way to make it work with not exchange based email, so does shoretel only synchronizing with Exchange Outlook?
